Green Power Purchase

Green power purchase

Since 2022, The Renewable Energy Initiative has paid a $50,000 premium yearly for energy used by the university to come from renewable energy through New River Light and Power’s (NRLP) Green Power Program, which sources hydroelectric power from the Yadkin River Hydroelectric Project. Think this is cool? You can offset your own carbon footprint by purchasing blocks of hydroelectric power for just $5 per 250 kWh on NRLP’s website!

SD Greenhouse

This high-efficiency greenhouse will utilize solar panels to power a ceiling fan, 12V DC battery, and climate control in the structure to extend the garden growing season year-round. The greenhouse will be a space on campus for hands-on learning, conducting research, and growing plants efficiently.

SD Garden Compost Bins

Located in the SD Garden, on the eastern side of the Living Learning Center, these compost bins will be an energy efficient way of creating nutrient-rich soil for use in the garden.
