Campus and Community Organizations

Appalachian State University Sustainable Energy Society

Student club that focuses activities on the education of students and the community about renewable energy and energy efficiency and acts as a resource for site assessment for solar, wind, and hydroelectric energy.

Appalachian State University Collaborative Biodiesel Project

The Collaborative Biodiesel Project is a student-led initiative at Appalachian State University and is funded by the EPA P3 Award: Student Design Competition for Sustainability and the REI. The purpose of the project is to create a closed loop biodiesel processing facility that provides for its own energy needs, and recycles its waste products. We have examined all aspects of the process in order to find sustainable ways to close the biodiesel loop. Our mission is to create a sustainable biodiesel processor model that can be easily replicated by others.

Western North Carolina Renewable Energy Initiative

The Western North Carolina Renewable Energy Initiative is a new public service program, sponsored by Appalachian State University and the North Carolina State Energy Office, to raise awareness about the benefits and feasibility of wind, solar, and micro-hydro power in the southern Appalachian region.
